Time Lapse Tuesday: South Dakota night sky with Randy Halverson

The badlands and sweeping Prairie landscapes: You’ll find these in Alberta, and south of the border in South Dakota.

They create the perfect “stage” for storm clouds to roll across and the northern lights to dance upon.

This photographer’s most favourite season is fall – because there are no bugs, something Canadians can relate to.

But when winter temperatures dropped below -30°C it was an especially good time for stars - and the aurora borealis gave him his most memorable session.

Quite a show in the sky, as today's time lapse travels to South Dakota and Wisconsin with photographer Randy Halverson.

Make sure you look at our full Time Lapse gallery, and visit our website every Tuesday for the newest featured video.

AROUND THE WORLD: Next week Kien Lam takes us around the world.

Behind the scenes, Digital Editor Cheryl Santa Maria is coordinating new Time Lapse installments that will take us high up in the sky ... and deep into the ground.
