Time lapse Tuesday: A journey to New Zealand with Shawn Reeder
The population may be small – just 4.5 million – but its geography is ‘large,’ built on a backbone of mountains.
That terrain and the influence of the Pacific Ocean shape the country’s weather. The North Island’s main geological feature is volcanoes. It’s home to Auckland, the only large city in the world built on a volcano field.
Mount Tongariro, one of the most popular places for hikers, was a search and rescue scene in August 2012 when it erupted. The south island is two thirds mountainous, and home to the southern alps. So much scope that film director Peter Jackson shot all 11-plus hours of his epic ‘Lord of the Rings’ trilogy here.
This week's featured time lapse travels to New Zealand with visual artist Shawn Reeder.
