The kids are looking forward to it. And so can you. Toronto and Greater Toronto Area (GTA) attractions have you well covered for the Family Day holiday on Monday in the city.

But what to choose? Whatever the weather and whatever the energy-level, consider these indoor and outdoor activities guaranteed to keep kids busy and moms and dads happy.

POTENTIAL FAMILY DAY STORM: Learn about the potential storm that could bring a messy mix to southern Ontario Monday

Be creative: The AGO becomes the KGO (Kids Gallery of Ontario) packed with dance parties, films, giant board games and all the art-making you’d expect from the Art Gallery of Ontario. A must-visit is the new Kids’ Gallery. Add your own portrait. Not convinced? Check out the fun that CBC’s Rick Mercer had on his recent visit.

Run 'em: Nothing says fun (and early bedtimes) like soccer balls, hula hoops and bouncy castles. The dome at Monarch Park offers full fields of fun. Not enough action? Go big at the annual Family Day Fest at Downsview Park.

Get some fresh air: It's February, so embrace the chill and get a skate in. Many of the city's rinks have Family Day schedules. Check out the east end's Greenwood Park, Toronto's newest skating trail and its first-ever covered hockey rink. In the west end, glide along the 250-metre Colonel Sam Smith skating trail. Downtown, HarbourKIDS Skating Festival at Harbourfront’s Natrel Rink has on-ice performances and public skating. No excuse – skate helmets and rentals available and you can check out the action beforehand via webcam.

Screen time: Stay inside (and warm) by catching a family-friendly movie. If the new LEGO movie is not your taste, check out TIFF's line-up and the hands-on filmmaking-inspired activities.

Free: You don’t need to break the bank to program your day. Venture along the Waterfront for free indoor and outdoor activities (even for your pet!) And you’ll find something for everyone at Evergreen Brick Works -- nature trail walks on foot or snowshoe, public skating and family-friendly beer garden.
