Haleakala - or the east Maui volcano - is one of the world's largest dormant volcanoes.

Often referred to as the "House of the Sun", this majestic mountain peaks at an elevation of 3,055 metres, and is home to some of the most spectacular sunrises on the planet.

On a recent trip to Maui, videographer Dan Douglas used 4 cameras to capture more than 5,000 images on Haleakala.

The end result is this spectacular time-lapse film.

"People gather from around the globe to witness this kaleidoscope of shifting colors," Douglas writes on his Vimeo page.

"My hope is to give you a small glimpse of the energy, excitement and elegance this natural marvel brings."
