Yellow Warning - Winter Storm
A winter storm with heavy snowfall and blowing snow is expected for Christmas Day.
Locations: northeastern Newfoundland from Clarenville and vicinity to Bay of Exploits.
Total snowfall: 15 to 35 cm, with locally higher amounts possible.
Maximum wind gusts Thursday: northeasterly 80 to 100 km/h
Maximum wind gusts Thursday night: west to northwesterly 80 to 110 km/h.
Time span: Thursday morning to overnight Thursday night.
Remarks: Strong winds accompanying the snow will reduce visibility at times in blowing snow. The strongest winds are expected along the coast, especially in the vicinities of Bonavista North and Bay of Exploits. Conditions will begin to ease Thursday evening for areas east of Gander; however, snow and blowing snow is expected to persist through most of the night for Gander and vicinity, Bonavista North, and Bay of Exploits.
Additionally, a second similar system may affect a similar area for Friday night into Saturday. At this time the uncertainty on this system is moderate, but the public is advised to monitor future forecasts closely and keep it in mind when planning Holiday travel.
