A preliminary 4.8 earthquake struck northwest of Vancouver, B.C., on Friday afternoon

A widely felt earthquake struck about 60 km northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia, on Friday afternoon.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the tremor struck at 1:26 p.m. local time on Friday at a depth of about 10 km. The quake was originally reported to be a magnitude 5.1, but its intensity has since been revised down to a preliminary magnitude 4.8.

Residents throughout Metro Vancouver and the Lower Mainland reported feeling the earthquake. Some folks on social media likened the quake to an explosion or a large truck driving by.
