On September 4, 2007, Hurricane Felix made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane. Hurricanes usually weaken before they come ashore.
Hurricane Felix hit northeastern Nicaragua with sustained winds of 260 km/h. The storm raged through Nicaragua and hit Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico.
The results were devstating. More than 160,000 people were left stranded, 133 people died, and there were hundreds of millions of dollars in damages.
