Strong winds lead to power outages across Quebec

Thousands of homes and businesses lost electricity in the morning, but saw it restored later in the day.

Storm surge warnings for the Quebec City area ended Monday afternoon, after thousands of homes and businesses across the province were without electricity for most of the morning.

Several regions saw rain, and wind gusts of to 60-70 km/h for much of the day.

But by about 3:30 p.m., the weather had calmed and the number of outages was significantly reduced in the areas hardest hit, including the Montérégie, Laurentians, Lanaudière, Abitibi-Témiscamingue and Outaouais regions, according to the Hydro outage map.

There were also wind warnings in effect for the Magdalen Islands and the Sainte-Anne-des-Monts-Grande-Vallée region, where wind gusts reached up to 90 km/h earlier in the day.
