
'Significant' earthquake hits near San, Diego, Calif., aftershocks follow

A moderate-intensity earthquake jolted parts of Southern California on Monday morning, with shaking reported as far away as Los Angeles and numerous aftershocks taking place following the event.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 5.2-magnitude tremor occurred five kilometres south of Julian, Calif., approximately 60 kilometres from San Diego. The quake registered at a depth of 14.3 kilometres.

While it wasn't rated high on the Richter scale, the USGS classified the earthquake as significant.

There was no damage or injuries reported as a result of the quake, but shaking was felt as far north as Los Angeles, Calif. There have been several aftershocks documented, ranging from 2.5 to 3.5 magnitudes. Additional aftershocks are possible in the coming hours.
