Quebec faced its warmest year on record in 2024

2024 was a particularly historic year in Quebec

It's the end of quite the historic year for much of Quebec. It was the warmest year ever recorded in the province, and by a good margin for quite a few places. Montreal for example, was 0.7 degrees warmer over the previous record set in 2023.

An even greater margin can be seen in Val-d'Or. 2024 came in at 0.9 degrees warmer than the previous record set in 2010. Quebec, Rimouski, Saguenay, Sherbrooke and Gatineau also broke their average temperature records.

A series of hot months

A clear trend developed in Montreal in 2024. All 12 months were above average in terms of temperature. The first three months of the year had the biggest deviation from average temperature norms. February in particular, had quite a large gap, coming in at 4.4 degrees above normal.

December was the only month that recorded a small deviation, about 0.2 degrees above normal. It had the potential to be the only month of the year to be below normal, however that was not the case due to the very mild temperatures at the end of the year.

One might be surprised that December recorded temperatures close to average due to the incredibly mild temperatures at the end of the month, however many parts of the province had some below average temperatures, especially around Christmas.
