A potent nor'easter led to widespread school closures, flight cancellations and other impacts in southern Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Tuesday, with some areas seeing more than 30 cm of snow by Wednesday morning.

By the early morning hours on Tuesday, significant snowfall had already accumulated in downtown Halifax, N.S. This prompted most schools to either delay their openings or just completely shut their doors first thing. As of Tuesday evening, 25 cm had fallen in downtown Halifax.

Across the Gulf, the nor'easter powered through Newfoundland, with some of the heaviest snow and blizzard-like conditions hitting Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, St. John's International Airport measured 38 cm of snow, with 43 cm falling in Bonavista.

Widespread wind gusts of 100+ km/h were reported across Newfoundland during the storm, with a peak gust of 122 km/h reported at Green Island off the tip of the Burin Peninsula.
