PHOTOS: GTA, Toronto hit by their biggest snowfall of the winter so far
It took some time, but the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) was hit with a notable snowfall on Saturday night. For some locales, it was the biggest accumulation so far this winter
Many folks in southern Ontario, especially in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA), woke up Sunday morning to see their yards and vehicles covered in the most snow they've seen so far this winter.
A Colorado low grazed southern Ontario Saturday evening through Sunday morning, bringing the most snowfall the city of Toronto, and other locales, has seen in a single event this winter so far. The snow led to difficult travel as visibility was greatly reduced.

The winter blast followed on the heels of a fatal vehicle pileup on Highway 11 on Friday, resulting from a persistent, lake-effect snow band that stayed over the Orillia area for much of the day.

As of Sunday morning, Pearson International Airport has racked up 15 cm of snowfall––the largest, one-day snowfall in Toronto since March 3, 2023. As well, Burlington and Grimsby, Ont., have seen 17 cm of snowfall, with 16 cm and 15 cm of snow piling up in Kitchener and Woodstock, Ont., so far, respectively.
Other cities that have reported snowfall totals as of Sunday at 10 a.m. EST include
-Oakville: 19 cm* (volunteer observation)
Goderich: 18 cm
Cambridge: 17 cm* (volunteer observation)
Guelph: 15 cm
Toronto downtown: 13 cm
Scarborough south: 13 cm* (volunteer observation)
An easterly wind blowing off Lake Ontario allowed the snowfall to overachieve across the western GTA, pushing totals along the shoreline close to, at or above the 15-cm mark.
