One dead as severe storms sweep Ontario, tornado confirmed near London
Severe thunderstorms ripped through parts of Ontario, causing damage, weather warnings and at least one confirmed fatality
One person has died following severe thunderstorms that swept parts of Ontario over May 18 and 19, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s weather summary.
The federal agency stated that the system brought hot weather followed by damaging thunderstorms, resulting in power outages, downed trees and localized injuries in some areas.
According to the summary, the fatality occurred near Huntsville during severe thunderstorm activity on May 18 and affected communities, experienced significant tree damage and downed power lines.

Tornado confirmed near London
A tornado was also confirmed southeast of London, Ont., around 6 p.m. on May 19, according to Environment Canada's summary.
Storms swept across central, eastern and southwestern Ontario, with reports of a semi-truck being blown over and widespread tree damage in London.
The Northern Tornadoes Project is looking into possible tornadoes in other parts of the province, including Mattawa and Huntsville.
