Many schools in Nova Scotia closed due to icy driving conditions
Many schools in Nova Scotia are closed on Friday because streets are slicked with ice.
Much of the mainland saw a mix of snow, freezing rain and ice pellets that turned to rain on Thursday. Temperatures then dropped overnight, making for slippery driving conditions on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, northern Cape Breton is bracing for a blast of wintry weather, with snow beginning Friday morning and continuing into Saturday.

CBC meteoroligst Tina Simpkin said up 30 centimetres of snow was expected in the Highlands and the entire island was expecting wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres an hour.
The weather has closed schools in the following regional centres:
Tri-County Regional Centre for Education.
South Shore Regional Centre for Education.
Anaapolis Valley Regional Centre for Education.
Halifax Regional Centre for Education.
Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education.
Cape Breton Victoria Regional Centre for Education.
There was a two-hour delay in opening for schools in Strait Regional Centre for Education, although certain schools did close and buses were only travelling on paved roads.
Meanwhile, there is more messy weather on the way for Sunday. Simpkin says that storm will bring snow and high winds.
