Must see: Rounds of intense hail cause damage in Australia
The owners of Yanalla Farms, located northwest of Brisbane, Australia, said the third massive hailstorm to hit the region was the final straw for the protective netting over their orchard.
As seen in the video above, a net 'roof' designed to protect their lychee crop from birds was no match for days of heavy hail. November 17th's storm forced the farm's owners to travel row-to-row to release tons of hailstones trapped in the tattered netting.
"After surviving two previous hail storms, our lychee netting has finally given up the ghost," the owners said on Facebook. "The roof has ripped in too many places to salvage."
Storms prompted the Australian Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) to issue thunderstorm warnings for the region on the 16th and 17th. Hail up to 6 cm in diameter was reported with some storms, causing "multiple reports of damage," according to the BoM.
Soaring temperatures across eastern Australia have seen daytime highs more than 10ºC above average through much of the past week.
Heavy smoke drifting in from wildfires in parts of the country has added to the generally unpleasant conditions with haze and reduced air quality.
