The same earthquake was registered as a magnitude 4.5 by the USGS. It's not uncommon for different agencies to report varying magnitudes, according to the USGS, nor is it uncommon for initial readings to be upgraded or downgraded.

There are no reports of damage or injuries at this time, nor is there a tsunami threat.

Residents took to social media to report the quake, which Earthquake Canada says was "lightly felt" by people living there.

Earthquakes not uncommon in British Columbia

Earthquakes are fairly common in B.C., due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire a tectonic volcano and earthquake belt.

According to ClimateReadyBC, thousands of earthquakes are recorded across the province annually, but only about 50 are felt.
