Wet, potentially stormy conditions to usher in August in Ontario, Quebec
A surge of atmospheric moisture will fuel heavy rain and a thunderstorm risk across Ontario and Quebec this weekend, accompanied by gusty winds at times
With August now here, summer is turning the page on the 2026 season with the end of it slowly creeping up on the horizon.
In Ontario and Quebec, the first weekend of August won't be as pleasant as many are hoping for. Saturday already began on a soggy note for parts of both provinces, with the rain and storm threat on the move south through the day and on Sunday, too.

Localized flooding will be possible with the rainfall and associated thunderstorm risks.

Rainy, gusty, stormy interruptions in Central Canada this weekend
After a cold front brought heavy rain to parts of Ontario and Quebec on Saturday morning. prompting rainfall warnings with localized accumulations up to 80+ mm, the system will continue to track southeastward through the day.
It will bring gusty and rainy conditions at times on Saturday.
Quebec will experience more widespread showers through the Saturday afternoon hours, whereas southern Ontario will see more spotty, scattered precipitation.
As well, there will be a risk of non-severe thunderstorms through the day on Saturday. Heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts will be the main hazards.
Rain will persist into the overnight hours for portions of southern Ontario and Quebec.
Heading into Sunday morning, showers will become more widespread in southern Ontario with the increase in moisture levels.
The uptick in moisture will lead to higher rainfall totals through the day.
Projected rainfall forecasts:
Southern Ontario (on average): 10-20 mm
Southwestern Ontario: 15-30 mm
Niagara region: 20-40 mm
Eastern Ontario and Quebec: 20-40 mm
The primary hazard with Sunday’s storms will be the high rainfall amounts, especially in eastern Quebec and the National Capital Region.
Not only will there be rain and a storm risk to contend with, the winds will be a bit breezy at times this weekend.
Winds will strengthen on Sunday with gusts reaching 30 to 40 km/h. Through Sunday overnight, areas such as Kingston could see gusts exceeding 45 km/h.
