Threat of storms looms over southern Ontario to conclude Pride weekend
While the Pride parade should be safeguarded against any storm potential Sunday afternoon, other parts of southern Ontario may not be so lucky.
For those attending the Pride festivities Sunday, including the parade, you should be able to enjoy the afternoon without an interruption from Mother Nature. People should brace for hot, humid conditions, however.
Other sections of southern Ontario may not be so lucky, especially in the southwest, which faces a severe storm potential in the early evening. Forecasters are closely monitoring for a potential squall line that could develop stateside and clip the region.

Sunday
Areas: Southern Ontario
Timing: Sunday afternoon into the overnight hours
Weather: The day will largely be dry for the majority of those in southern Ontario, but the atmosphere becomes more unstable as the day progresses. We’re not expecting a significant storm risk during the Pride parade Sunday afternoon in Toronto, but thunderstorms will be bubbling up northwest of the Greater Toronto Area.

Later in the day, however, a stronger line of storms will be brewing in the state of Michigan and then sweep into southern Ontario after dinnertime. These storms could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall.
Confidence is high that thunderstorms will develop with daytime heating Sunday afternoon, but only moderate for the timing of the squalls towards the extreme southwest.

Temperatures will fall on the warmer side of seasonal on Sunday, and the humidex will push into the mid-30s across the Greater Toronto Area, especially away from the lake. Stay well hydrated if you’ll be outdoors for any length of time.
We’re also watching the risk for air quality issues to creep back into portions of southern Ontario on Sunday as easterly winds carry wildfire smoke down from Quebec.

Southerly winds should return to the region late on Sunday, pushing the smoke back toward the fires in Quebec -- a province that has seen more than a million hectares of land burned.

Monday and beyond
Southern Ontario is locked into a humid pattern into this week, providing ample opportunities for pop-up showers and thunderstorms. Monday features rounds of showers and rumbles of thunder across southern Ontario, with the unsettled, dreary conditions spilling right through Tuesday.

Forecasters see a trend toward drier weather heading toward the latter half of the week for much of southern Ontario, but folks across eastern Ontario might not see much improvement.
More of the same is possible looking ahead toward the long holiday weekend, with bouts of unsettled weather and the risk for downpours possible.
