Flakes may fly on our first weekend of spring
A balmy end to winter across southern Ontario will be met with a chilly start to spring. We could even see some flakes fly this weekend.
The first official weekend of spring is almost here, but will the warm and milder weather continue through the weekend across southern Ontario?
Spring can be a rather flakey season. Not only is the weather notorious for being changeable, it’s easy to forget that it’s actually normal to see flakes from time to time. This weekend will help to remind us of that reality.
We have been spoiled this week by temperatures more typical of April and May, but this weekend will actually feel more like March. Of course this shouldn’t come as a shock since it is still March for one more week.

Before we get to the weekend, Friday will feature gorgeous early spring weather with abundant sunshine. Temperatures will be much cooler than recent days, but still a degree or two above seasonal, and it will feel even warmer due to the sunshine.

First signs of snow flurries on Saturday
Saturday will start mild, but a cold front will track across our region during the morning. This will bring a period of rain showers, which will change to flurries before ending, especially for areas to the north and northwest of Toronto.
Our high temperatures for Saturday will occur early in the day and then temperatures will slowly fall through the day.

Saturday won’t be a washout, and much of the day will be dry, but temperatures will drop to near freezing during the afternoon with a rather strong and gusty northwest wind.
Saturday night will be partly cloudy and cold.

Feeling the chill with early March-like temperatures on Sunday
We will see some sun during Sunday morning, but increasing clouds will spread from west to east across our region during the afternoon and temperatures will be rather chilly and more typical of early March.

During Sunday night, we expect snow will develop from west to east across most of southern Ontario, but a mix of wet snow and rain is expected for parts of southwestern Ontario.

Wet snow kicks off Monday with a cool end to March across southern Ontario
Wet snow will continue into Monday morning, but the Greater Toronto area (GTA) and areas to the south and west of the GTA, should see a changeover to rain before the precipitation ends.
