Snow and ice storm closes most N.B. schools
A snow and ice storm led to the closure of most New Brunswick schools Thursday.
The only exceptions were schools in the Anglophone South district, as well as Saint John area schools in Francophone South.
As of 6 a.m., highways across the province were partly to fully covered with snow, ice and slush, according to New Brunswick's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure.

As of 8:40 a.m. there were 15 outages reported by N.B. Power affecting 670 customers, mainly in Kent and central York counties.
A yellow or moderate warning for hazardous winter conditions in northern New Brunswick was continued by Environment Canada at about 5 a.m. Thursday.
Freezing rainfall of five to 10 mm mixed with ice pellets was forecast to end early Thursday afternoon.
"Roads and walkways will likely be difficult to navigate," said the alert.
"Consider postponing non-essential travel and outdoor activities until conditions improve," advised the national weather service.
"Prepare for some disruptions to transportation, services and utilities."
For central and much of southern New Brunswick, a yellow alert was issued for freezing rain. That was forecast to transition to rain during Thursday morning.
"Roads and walkways will likely become icy and slippery," said Environment Canada.
"Property or tree damage due to the weight of ice is possible," it said.
The agency also warned of possible hazards from falling ice and branches.
The storm also delayed openening of several post-secondary institutions in the province.
The University of New Brunswick Fredericton campus and St. Thomas University have delayed opening until 10 a.m.
Université de Moncton's main campus is closed until 10 a.m., while the Edmundston campus is closed until 6 p.m. The Shippagan campus is closed for the day.
NBCC campuses in Fredericton, Woodstock and Moncton have delayed opening until 10 a.m., while NBCC Miramichi won't open until 1 p.m.
CCNB campuses in the Acadian Peninsula, Campbellton and Bathurst are closed for the day while the Edmundston campus will be closed for the morning.
