Early look at potential severe weather setup in Ontario next week
Storm season is set to ramp up in Ontario early next week as forecasters keep a close eye on the threat of severe weather on Monday and Tuesday
A potent Colorado low expected to develop late this weekend could bring an active spell of thunderstorms to much of Ontario early next week.
While the weather should mostly co-operate with voters heading to the polls in Monday’s election, conditions will go downhill into Tuesday as the storm system approaches the region.
Stay aware of potential watches and warnings in your community. Conditions can change rapidly as strong storms bubble up.

Early look at thunderstorm potential Monday and Tuesday
It’s been a busy couple of days for severe weather on the southern U.S. Plains as a favourable setup allowed multiple rounds of intense thunderstorms to blossom over the region.

One storm in western Texas pelted the town of Matador with hail that grew as large as 13.2 cm (5.2 in.) in diameter—-larger than a DVD.
This severe weather threat will migrate north and east into the weekend as our next low-pressure system develops over Colorado.
A cold front trudging into a mass of unstable air will trigger widespread thunderstorms south of the border on Sunday.

Widespread heavy rain will envelop southern Manitoba and northwestern Ontario for election day on Monday with the risk of thunderstorms for the latter.
A risk for thunderstorms will push into northern Ontario as the system arrives. Some of these storms could be severe.

Tuesday will be a day to monitor the forecast and potential watches and warnings across portions of southern Ontario as warm, unstable air surges into the region from the south.
This instability could give rise to thunderstorms across the region, some of which could also approach severe limits.

While meteorologists see a solid signal for potential thunderstorms, three days in advance is still too soon for specifics on the intensity and precise location of storms—or even if they’ll turn severe.
Stay tuned through the weekend as forecasters hammer out the details and the specifics become clearer.
