A strong storm continues to move east, bringing dangerous winter travel across Newfoundland on Monday.
Winds picked up in a hurry across the East Coast on Sunday, as a strong low-pressure system bears down on the region. Winds topped 90 km/h in some areas, with power outages exceeding more than 30,000 at times.

The winds will die down across the Maritimes, though remaining strong through Newfoundland on Monday. Strong winds paired with heavy, wet snow across northwestern sections of the province, could make for some dangerous winter travel and whiteout conditions.

Dangerous winter travel with strong winds and heavy snow on Monday
Wintry weather spreads across Newfoundland through Monday, along with gusty winds from the northwest.

We'll see localized totals up to 30 cm across northwestern sections of Newfoundland, but with very little snowfall forecast for St. John’s.
Heavy snow and poor driving conditions are expected across central and northern sections of the province, ranging from northwest of Clarenville to Corner Brook and Port aux Basques.

The snow will be paired with gusty winds between 80 to 100 km/h. Whiteout conditions will make for very difficult and dangerous travel in the harder-hit areas.
Snow will move east and begin easing by the evening hours.

Meanwhile, the Maritimes clear Monday, but with more rain forecast on Tuesday afternoon.
