PHOTOS: Damage reported in Ontario amid tornado-warned storms
Severe thunderstorms punched their way through southern and eastern Ontario on Tuesday, resulting in tornado warnings and reports of damage, flooding and power outages
Tornado-warned storms pushed through southern and eastern Ontario, resulting in reported damage, flooding and power outages in parts of the province.
An associated frontal boundary moved into southern Ontario. Breaks in cloud cover and daytime heating triggered moderate-to-high instability levels, leading to the development of numerous thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
These storms formed ahead of a trailing cold front, with isolated cells capable of producing localized flooding and rotation.
Some of the storms generated enough rotation to prompt tornado warnings in near and in National Capital Region on Tuesday afternoon. The warnings were dropped, and there hasn't been any reports of tornadoes as of yet.
Storms between Kingston, Brockville, and Cornwall intensified further due to enhanced dynamics in the afternoon.
