PHOTOS: Albertans wake up stunned to the sight of May snowfall
The week started off as a great reminder to keep winter tires on throughout the month of May in Alberta, much to the chagrin of many residents.
We're nearly at the mid-May mark, but Alberta still can't shake off the wintry weather just yet, leaving many residents reeling from the spring snowfall on Monday morning.
Snow fell throughout Sunday overnight into Monday morning in some areas, including in Calgary, as temperatures hovered near the freezing mark. The heaviest snow targeted northern sections of the province, with some localized areas set to see up to 20 cm through Monday.

While the snow has since ended in cities such as Calgary, it is forecast to continue for communities in the higher elevations of the foothills and Rocky Mountains through Monday evening, then dissipating overnight.
In addition to the morning snow, Monday afternoon and evening featured the risk of isolated thunderstorms in southern Alberta, thanks to an unstable atmosphere.
