Ontario: Temperatures rebound significantly this weekend

Don't get too comfortable with this weekend's spring-like weather as a much more wintry pattern looks to end the month of February.

This weekend across southern Ontario will be looking and feeling like anything but February. That's as abundant sunshine and near double-digit daytime highs put a definite spring spin on the otherwise heart of winter weekend. You'll want to soak up as much of the warmth as possible however, as forecasters keep a close eye on the potential for some "significant snow" as we round out the month and head into March next week. More on the gorgeous spring fling and the winter system that looms, below.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS

  • Temperatures will rise throughout the weekend, nearing double digits by Sunday

  • Conditions become unsettled early next week, more wintry pattern for final days of February

  • Potential for a significant system with snow or mixed precipitation by the middle to end of next week

  • Keep track of the weather alerts in your area.

WEEKEND: ABUNDANT SUNSHINE, TEMPERATURES WARM SIGNIFICANTLY

After waking up to some of the coldest air of the week on Friday, an early taste of spring will dominate much of this weekend's weather in southern Ontario.

MUST SEE: Mind the bumps: Pothole season has arrived

While it won't be record breaking, this will certainly be a gorgeous weekend to enjoy, especially by winter standard. Temperatures will slowly rise into Saturday with some areas peaking in the high single digits, possibly even cracking the double digit mark by Sunday.

"A few spots could even over achieve and reach 10+ degrees on Sunday," says Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham.

As colder air spreads back into the region by Thursday, forecasters are keeping a close eye on the potential for a significant system with snow.

"It is too early to have confidence in the details, but significant snow totals are possible," warns Gillham.
