Ontario thunderstorm risk intensifies toward the end of week

Multiple days of thunderstorm threats will surface in southern Ontario this week as instability builds up on Thursday and Friday

With snow seemingly in the rearview mirror now in southern Ontario, the region is now getting a sneak peek at the summer season with a multi-day thunderstorm risk.

The threat has grown this week, beginning on Wednesday, reappearing again on Thursday and then peaking Friday with a greater opportunity for storms to surface, with a chance some could be stronger in nature for parts of the region.

As the summer season approaches, and thunderstorm chances increase, it's important to stay alert on the weather watches and warnings in your area. Remember, when 'thunder roars, go indoors'. You should always seek shelter indoors immediately when you hear thunder, as it signifies that lightning is nearby.

A weakened system from the Prairies will move through Ontario on Thursday, triggering rain and possibly some thunder, as well. These storms will form off of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, extending east into the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Thursday's storm risk, similar to Wednesday's, will be very isolated, however, and there's some uncertainty in development with weaker storm triggers present.

A strengthening stateside system will move in on Friday, lifting in a large warm, and unstable air mass.
