Mid-April chill brings cold rain, wet snow to Atlantic Canada
A system bringing a mix of rain, snow and gusty winds will keep Atlantic Canada unsettled on Sunday, shifting to Newfoundland after a Saturday impact in the Maritimes.
The brunt of this cold, wet, gusty system shifts to Newfoundland for Sunday, though parts of Nova Scotia will have a few lingering showers to contend with as well. Beyond, the region gets a fairer, milder break before the next system enters the frame. More details on impact and timing, below.
SUNDAY: RAIN/SNOW MIX FOR NEWFOUNDLAND, LINGERING SHOWERS
Through Sunday, the system tracking south of the Maritimes will track close enough to southern Newfoundland to continue bringing rain to southern and eastern areas, and a mix of rain and snow for central and western areas.
Back across the Gulf, Nova Scotia's Atlantic Coast will be in a similar range, with showers also likely across part of southern New Brunswick, though lighter amounts are expected.

Throughout the entire course of this event, rainfall amounts will be heaviest in southern coastal and eastern sections of Nova Scotia, where 20-40 mm of rain could fall. Southern and western portions of Newfoundland may see 15-25 mm by the end of the weekend.
In addition to the rain, winds will strengthen somewhat in Newfoundland once more Sunday afternoon, again with gusts in the 40-60 km/h range. They will begin to ease in the overnight hours.
In terms of temperatures, the region can expect to stay on the cooler side of seasonal, with temperatures stuck squarely in the mid-single-digits.

BEYOND: FAIRER, MILDER WEEK AHEAD
Beyond, things look mostly fair and near or slightly above seasonal early-to-mid next week. St. John’s will even finally see a few days with some sunshine and milder temperatures. Some areas could see daytime highs reach the low or mid-teens.
The next significant system will move in mid-to-late week, bringing rain and gusty winds to the Maritimes and Newfoundland Wednesday night into Thursday night, along with a shot of cooler temperatures.
