PHOTOS: Alberta begins to dig out after 40+ cm of snow buries towns
Intense snow made a mess of travel in southern Alberta Tuesday, with numerous collisions resulting from the slick road conditions.
A strong system that crossed British Columbia earlier this week and is on its way out of the eastern Prairies brought heavy snowfall over a good chunk of Western Canada. By Tuesday morning, Kananaskis Country, Alta. received 70 cm of snow, with 40+ cm accumulating in other high-elevation areas. Even Calgary found itself buried in 20-40 cm so far.

That had a major effect on travel across the country, with parts of the Trans-Canada Highway down to one lane in some areas. In Calgary, more than 50 collisions, some involving injuries, were reported on the roads between Monday night and early Tuesday morning.
The snow has since departed Alberta but left behind a winter wonderland in its wake. Below is a selection of how the snow has played out in Alberta.
