Heavy rain, storms slice through Atlantic Canada Thursday

A cold front slicing through Atlantic Canada will bring heavy rains and thunderstorms to the Maritime provinces on Thursday, before setting its sights on Newfoundland Friday

While municipalities are still recovering from the torrential downpours that caused major flooding in Nova Scotia earlier in July, Atlantic Canada is once again in the spotlight for active weather to close out the work week.

Hot and humid temperatures dominated last week, sparking up a late-week storm risk. While this week has been a pleasant break from the July heat, a cold front sweeping north from Maine won't let the cooler temperatures stop it from raining on Atlantic Canada's parade.

Newfoundland will be seeing a widespread storm risk throughout the day Friday, particularly in the western and central regions of the province, while the Maritime provinces will only have a chance to see a few isolated thunderstorms pop up.

Heavy rains are the primary threat with this system, however, parts of New Brunswick could see storms reach severe criteria, which would bring the additional risk of large hail and strong winds.
