Haunting 'music' heard at the Golden Gate Bridge during high winds
Many social media users took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the new sounds coming from the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Golden Gate Bridge has been creating 'musical tones' that initially had some Bay Area residents puzzled.
Eerie humming noises were heard from several kilometres away and the sound has been described as "haunting, yet kind of beautiful."
The Golden Gate Bridge Sargent says the sound is from strong winds hitting the newly installed railing slats along the bridge’s bike path.
The new slats were intended to help with wind resistance, but the engineers did not predict that this noise would occur when wind flows through gaps in the slats.
Local officials say there are no planned fixes for the issue.
Strong winds between 70-100 km/h were gusting through San Francisco on June 5, which created the loud sounds coming from the bridge.
