
GTA stays on the sidelines: Monday’s Ontario heat just out of reach
Monday’s heat may be just out of reach for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as a true clash of seasons unfolds across southern Ontario. Mother Nature is going to draw a line––and the GTA will be on the wrong side of this front.
While Thunder Bay deals with more snow this spring, extreme southwestern Ontario will be enjoying patio weather to start the week as temperatures spill into the low 20s from the warm front attempting to lift north.
After Saturday's brief fling of July-like temperatures, similar values for coming back to southwestern Ontario on Monday. However, the 20-degree warmth will help fuel the risk of thunderstorms as there will be plenty of instability to work with.

But not everyone will be enjoying the warmth. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) will be staying on the cooler side as an easterly wind off Lake Ontario prevents the warmth from reaching the region.
Monday: Summer-like warmth and thunderstorm risk returns to parts of southern Ontario
On Monday, spring hit will hit a wall, or rather a stalling warm front-–meaning millions will of Ontarians will miss out on 20-degree warmth.
The significant air mass contrast between northern and southern Ontario will help drive a large temperature difference across the south, with the warm front hung up near the London to Niagara Falls corridor while a cool, easterly wind is forecast for the GTA.

Lake Ontario water temperatures are hovering near 5°C, and that makes one heck of an effective air conditioner with an east wind forecast through the day for the GTA.

The notable temperature gradient between the GTA and southwestern Ontario will fuel a risk of thunderstorms across the latter region.

There could be some initial rumbles of thunder associated with the first round of shower activity across the south.
Through Monday afternoon, the greatest risk of thunderstorm activity extends from Hamilton down to Lake Erie and southwestern Ontario––associated with a more unstable, warm sector.
