First October weekend will feel like summer across Western Canada

Unseasonably warm weather spreads across Western Canada this weekend

Summer-like conditions will make a return to Western Canada this weekend, as temperatures climb well above seasonal norms thanks to a strengthening ridge of high pressure.

The warm spell will spread north and east across B.C. and the Prairies, bringing dry conditions and significantly warmer daytime highs.

Temperatures soar across the Prairies by Sunday

Alberta will see its warm-up begin Sunday, peaking Monday. Cities like Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Regina may reach 20°C, while Calgary could hit 23°C. Southern areas, including Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, might approach 26°C or higher. Saskatchewan will see widespread warmth Sunday and Monday, and Manitoba, though starting the weekend on the cooler side, will see temperatures rise by Monday, peaking Tuesday with Winnipeg expected to hit 21°C.

These warmer temperatures may extend patio season while moderating overnight lows, reducing frost threats. The dry, mild weather also offers positive news for farmers, aiding harvesting operations that are slightly behind schedule this fall, with less than 60% complete in parts of the southern Prairies.
