Unusually warm temperatures contributed to the melting ice
Around 45 vehicles fell through freezing waters near Vladivostok, Russia after the ice sheet they were parked on began to collapse.
The footage shows the ice fishers attempting to retrieve their submerged vehicles and some sunk to a depth of 2 metres. Unseasonably warm weather is being blamed for the collapsing ice sheet.
Local officials state that no one was in the vehicles when they began to sink and towing services were needed to rescue some of the cars.
Vladivostok is located in Far Eastern Russia and is home to the largest Russian port on the Pacific coast. Temperatures in this city can drop below -20°C during the winter and has a record low of -31.4°C.
