A widespread threat of thunderstorms with heavy rain and strong wind gusts builds across southern Manitoba Wednesday night, increasing the risk of flooding and scattered power outages, lingering into early Thursday morning
Southern Manitobans could be in for a stormy night Wednesday as forecasters monitor what transpires stateside.
Heavy rainfall will be associated with a cluster of thunderstorms in southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, so there will be an elevated risk of localized flooding, alongside frequent lightning and blustery wind gusts that could lead to scattered power outages.

Through Thursday morning:
A widespread storm risk and heavy rain threat is building across southern Manitoba through Thursday morning.

On Wednesday evening, thunderstorm activity will increase across the southeastern corner of the province, including for Brandon and Melita, Man.
As the system advances through the pre-dawn hours of Thursday, a thunderstorm complex will fill in across southern Manitoba.
Heavy rainfall and localized flooding are the primary threats to Winnipeg.

Some model projections highlight up to 80 mm of rainfall across extreme southern sections of Manitoba.
As well, wind gusts up to 80 km/h are possible during the most intense thunderstorms. Scattered power outages are possible.
There is moderate confidence of widespread storm activity through early Thursday, with the activity drifting into northern Ontario in the afternoon.

Beyond, a quick shot of cooler, but near seasonal, weather will spread across the Prairies during the weekend, especially in eastern sections, but then temperatures will rebound. Turning hot for back to school as the heat spreads east.
There is the potential for ore unsettled and stormy conditions for a couple days during the middle of next week. Warmer-than-normal temperatures should dominate for most of September.
