Eyes on an incoming Colorado low to close out the weekend in Ontario

After something of a breather Saturday, a Colorado low threatens more snow Sunday night.

Aside from a few flakes in some areas, calm and clear skies met much of southern Ontario Saturday, and Sunday looks to start calm as well. However, Sunday night sees another system, a Colorado low, begin moving into the province, bringing a widespread 5-10 cm, though with some chance of a rain/snow mix at the lakeshore. More on what we expect from this new system, and what's beyond, below.

WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Snow develops late Sunday night and continues through Monday afternoon, widespread 5-10 cm expected

  • Milder temperatures forecast Monday, rising above freezing across the region

SUNDAY AND BEYOND: COLORADO LOW PUSHES THROUGH, REMAINING UNSETTLED

Aside from some wayward flakes in the Niagara region and areas near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, Saturday was largely quiet across southern Ontario, as will be at least the start of Sunday.

But the next weather-maker for southern Ontario is already en route: a Colorado low that will push into the Great Lakes late Sunday evening, with snow lingering through Monday afternoon.

A widespread 5-10 cm is forecast for much of the province, with the chance of a rain/snow mix along some of the lake shores.

Those aren't excessive amounts, though they'll be added onto snowpiles still packed high with the snows of the past few days.

Conditions are expected to remain unsettled beyond, with a clipper tracking across the region on Tuesday with several cm of snow and a rain/snow mix for parts of southern Ontario. Another weak system is possible on Wednesday.

Much milder weather will dominate next week, but temperatures will be a few degrees cooler, or near or a couple degrees below seasonal, late in the week. Milder again for next weekend but there is a potential for a significant system later in the weekend or early the following week.
