Clipper system to bring spring snowfall to parts of Ontario
The spring season could start with a snowy weekend for many parts of Ontario
As the first weekend of spring approaches, snow is on the horizon for many across Ontario.
An active pattern is taking shape, and with the right track, below-freezing temperatures along with snow could blanket Ontario. Northern parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and those in eastern Ontario can expect to see some flurries by the end of day Monday.
This is not unexpected as below seasonal temperatures are forecast as March comes to a close.

Sunday into Monday: wet snow for some, all out flurries for others
A developing clipper system will move over the Great Lakes on Sunday, before heading into southern Ontario on Monday morning, bringing the return of freezing temperaures and snowfall as it makes its way across the province.

A period of wet snow can be expected for those in the GTA starting Sunday night and continuing into the early morning hours on Monday. Those north of the QEW and along the 401 and 400 series highways will be especially impacted by this system.
A changeover to rain will come Monday morning, especially for those in downtown Toronto and communities along Lake Ontario. It is unlikely that the snow will stick around as temperatures will rise above freezing throughout the day.

For those in eastern Ontario, the system will begin moving towards the region in the late morning and stick around for the rest of the day. By the time the system departs, there is a chance of 3-5+ cm of snow for the region. Those in Ottawa have the potential to see higher totals as the colder air will stick around past Monday.
The ones who will see the more snowfall from this system are those in northeastern Ontario. The flurries will begin on Sunday but will increase and organize throughout the day on Monday. The higher elevation and colder air means that this will be an all snow event. Snowfall totals could range between 5-10cm but there is some uncertainty in exact amounts expected.

The cold pattern established this weekend will continue across the province early next week, bringing quite the contrast to the recent mild spring temperatures earlier this week.
