We have a new answer today after the temperature finally fell to 0°C for the first time since May. Not only did we break the record for the longest streak of above-freezing temperatures, but Friday morning’s frost was one of the latest first frosts ever recorded.

The temperature in Calgary rose above freezing on May 5, 2024, and remained there for the next 159 days.
That streak of five months and five days is the new all-time record for the longest consecutive period with temperatures above freezing in Calgary’s history. The previous record was 155 days set just last year.
Clear skies and light winds helped readings at Calgary International Airport fall below freezing just before sunrise on Friday, October 11, finally putting an end to our historic streak of warmth.
Friday morning’s frost turned out to be one of Calgary’s latest first frosts on record. The city typically sees its first frost around the middle of September.
We’ll likely see overnight low temperatures fall below the freezing mark in Calgary again Friday night and Saturday night. But don't fret if you’re not ready for a consistent freeze just yet. Temperatures will rebound and warm up just in time for Thanksgiving on Monday.
