Blustery winds, snow brings hazardous travel to parts of Sask., Manitoba

Blowing snow conditions are forecast to end the week in Saskatchewan and Manitoba as a clipper tracks in with a bout of blustery winds and snowfall. There won't be much break from the snow, either, as another clipper moves in for the weekend.

Winter weather will be ramping up again on the eastern Prairies this week, with Arctic air on the move alongside a eastward-trekking cold front.

A cold front will track into Saskatchewan and Manitoba on Thursday. Flurries and extensive blowing snow is likely across Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan. Wind gusts of 60-80+ km/h will make travel difficult at times, leading to reduced visibility because of blowing snow.

Drivers should be aware of rapidly deteriorating conditions on roads and highways throughout the day Thursday as the gusty winds blow the fresh snow.

Strong winds will be accompanied by bursts of snowfall, especially in southern Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Motorists should anticipate slower travel as the evening commute will be affected by blowing snow, with reduced visibility on the roads.

Weekend clipper gives no break from the wintry weather

Another clipper will follow a similar path across Saskatchewan and Manitoba late Saturday and into Sunday, bringing another swath of snow and blustery winds to the provinces.

Folks can expect another 3-5+ cm of snow overnight Saturday and into Sunday, along with 50-80 km/h wind gusts. Extensive blowing snow is likely across the eastern Prairies again on Sunday, causing travel headaches on highways where visibility may be reduced.

Behind this system will be a shot of frigid Arctic air for Manitoba, once more sending temperatures back into the -20s.
