Blowing snow a risk as clippers arrive before much-needed warmup

Multiple bouts of snowfall could bring blowing snow across Ontario this weekend, before a spring-like warmup early next week

We’re firmly in meteorological spring as the first week of March draws to a close, but wintry weather isn’t done with us just yet.

Chilly temperatures locked in place, coupled with a few weak systems tracking through the Great Lakes region, will allow for occasional bouts of snow across southern Ontario this weekend.

While it won’t be a blockbuster snowfall by any means, you’ll still want to keep tabs on current highway conditions before heading out this weekend.

Clippers may bring light accumulations

Saturday will start off on a chilly note, with temperatures struggling to reach the freezing mark throughout much of southern Ontario during the day.

Ontario snow Saturday night into Sunday

Our first clipper system arriving Saturday evening into the nighttime hours may bring a burst of flurries to southern Ontario. This system’s light accumulations will be hit or miss across the region.

However, we’re watching the potential for blowing snow which could make travel hazardous. This is especially a concern for communities in the snowbelts.

A second clipper will move across northwestern Ontario during the day Sunday, grazing Thunder Bay before moving into northeastern Ontario by the evening hours.

Ontario snowfall outlook through Sunday

Snowfall will push into the Ottawa region during the overnight hours Sunday. Snowfall totals are a little uncertain with weak systems like this, but folks could see 3-5 cm of snow from this second clipper.

A long-awaited warmup on the horizon

Are you ready for another tease of spring?

Temperatures will begin to rise heading into next week. Double-digit daytime highs are possible on Tuesday across southwestern Ontario, potentially creeping into the Greater Toronto Area.

This milder pattern won’t stick around very long. We can expect a return to cooler temperatures throughout the Great Lakes region heading into the second half of the month.
