Southern Ontario, blame your 'January blahs' on the cloudiest in a decade
With 27 days of cloud cover reported in Toronto this January, it earned the city the title for the cloudiest January on record in the last decade!
The start of a new month may come as welcome news for many, as January typically comes with that overall 'blah' feeling.
It's a month of cold weather and dark mornings, which typically coincide with a lack of motivation, low energy or possibly even a failed new year's resolution.

For those southern Ontarians who were feeling even more of the "January blahs" during this year in particular, you may have the clouds and overcast skies to blame.

For Toronto, the promise of a brand new year brought 27 days of overcast or mostly cloudy skies! That earned the city the top spot for the cloudiest January on record in the last decade.
"The sunless skies were caused in part by a zonal jet stream pattern that locked in place for a good part of the month. Precipitation was followed by cloud cover, and this repeated itself over and over and over, making for a very gloomy month," says Nicole Karkic, a meteorologist at The Weather Network.

January did end on a sunny note, however, and February promises a more typical set-up with splashes of sunshine in between periods of precipitation as well.
"The forecast should make for a brighter month ahead and some free Vitamin D to enjoy," Karkic adds.
