Ontario: First look at the Labour Day long weekend temps

The September long weekend is near and we want to give you all the useful weather-related tips to plan for it.

Although it's another long weekend to look forward to, the upcoming Labour Day holiday is a prime indicator that our treasured summer season is ending. In the days leading up to this first weekend of September, we want to take you Beyond The Forecast, giving you all of the necessary details to plan and soak up as much of this last summer long weekend as possible.

CHANCE OF BELOW SEASONAL TEMPERATURES THROUGH SUNDAY

Troughs over Hudson Bay could potentially swing south and create periods of below seasonal temperatures across southern Ontario on Friday through Sunday. The front that is set to track through the region on Friday could bring passing showers, however, this will likely be followed by dry conditions for the weekend.

The Weather Network meteorologist Dr. Doug Gillham says that the chance of rain is low and conditions will be mainly dry, cool and similar to this previous weekend. For context, seasonal temperatures are approximately 24°C for the Toronto region and a couple of degrees cooler for Cottage Country.

While the developing troughs might be disappointing for some, The Weather Network meteorologist Tyler Hamilton assures us that summer is not over and another round of warm temperatures is on the way. On the holiday Monday and into the first week of September there is the potential for temperatures to rebound to the mid to high 20s.

Forecast models indicate that Ontario and Quebec are in the battlezone of both above and below seasonal temperatures for the first weekend of September. Hamilton warns that this set up could involve active weather with stormy and unsettled conditions.
