PHOTOS: Abundant lightning as strong storms roll through Ontario

Night owls and early risers were rewarded with a crackling Labour Day weekend lightshow overnight.

A line of storms racing through southern Ontario through the overnight hours into early morning Labour Day put on a big show for anyone able to witness it.

Frequent lightning was reported all across much of the south, along with local downpours and gusty winds, lingering into the morning after sunrise.

The Weather Network's resident Storm Hunter, Mark Robinson, was out and about capturing the storms as they raged in the skies above.

"I’ve never seen a lightning show like that in Ontario. Ever," Robinson said. "At one point we had almost 20 strikes a second between Windsor and Hamilton."

Below is a selection of his best shots, with a few social media pics from bleary-eyed Twitter users.
