Wintry mix will give way to soggy start to the workweek

Prepare for slick roads in spots as snow and ice continue for parts of Newfoundland into Sunday night

The second in a series of wintry systems moving across Atlantic Canada will continue spreading foul conditions across much of Newfoundland heading into our Monday.

DON'T MISS: Will Canada's April bring a summer preview or a winter rewind?

Precipitation that initially began as snow on Sunday evening will quickly transition to a wintry mix across most of the southern section of the island.

Wind gusts on Sunday night are forecast to grow as strong as 80-90 km/h for eastern Newfoundland as the system passes through the region.

Newfoundland precipitation Monday morning

By Monday, we’ll see rounds of showers across eastern Newfoundland as our storm stalls out. Parts of southern Newfoundland may see as much as 30 mm of rain through Monday.

Behind the system, a few bursts of snow showers are forecast to move across the Maritimes and western Newfoundland as cooler air pushes into the region.

Looking ahead, a weaker system is set to arrive by the middle of the week. This new storm will bring with it the threat for additional snowfall across coastal communities as the weak centre of low pressure scrapes by the Atlantic coast.
