Winter offers the Prairies a break from the cold with pleasant warmup
Sunny skies and mild temperatures are in store across most of the Prairies. This may be the best weekend weather so far this season.
It has been a dreary winter to say the least. From the frigid temperatures across Canada at the start of winter, to the lack of sunshine, many folks are ready for a relief.
Although the Prairies haven’t been exceptionally snowy or cold overall, many parts of Manitoba and Saskatchewan including Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg have all only had one weekend day this season where temperatures jumped at or above the freezing mark.
Alberta has fared a little better than the rest of the region. The province has seen many more days with temperatures jumping above the freezing degree mark, and has had weekends where the temperatures surpassed the five-degree mark. However, these warm weekends were accompanied by little to no sunshine.

Dreary weather has been a theme all season across the Prairies. “That is about to change this weekend,” says The Weather Network meteorologist Matt Grinter. “This weekend is being dubbed the best weekend of the winter so far on the Prairies."

This weekend will bring temperatures above the freezing mark for nearly the entire southern Prairies, with places in Alberta surpassing the five-degree mark.
On top of the comfortable temperatures, there will be mostly sunny skies throughout most of the weekend.
Don't get accustomed to the warmth, however, as temperatures will be plunging into the minus double digits towards to end of next week.
