A reminder of March’s cold side as temperature plunge moves east

Eastern Canada, get ready for a temperature swing as we head through this week. After a warm start, a sharp cold front will send temperatures plummeting in the region, from west to east.

A classic March scenario is unfolding this week across Canada.

An exceptional temperature divide will envelope the country, with western regions plunging back into winter while Ontario and the East leaps into spring. However, for the East, the region will have to endure a sharp temperature drop before the pleasant warm-up arrives for next weekend.

A fast-moving cold front and a clear night sky will drastically drop temperatures across Eastern Canada as the week wears on. So, don't put away the winter clothing.

The impending cooldown will start in northern Ontario, where a more dramatic temperature drop takes place into early Tuesday morning.

Timmins, Ont., will drop from 6ºC at 1 a.m. to -13ºC at 9.a.m., representative of a nearly 20-degree drop in just eight hours.

The cold front then moves across southern and eastern Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick on Tuesday, creating brisk temperatures for Wednesday.

Tuesday will see Ottawa hit 10ºC in Ottawa, Toronto reach 9ºC and southwestern Ontario hit the teens. By Wednesday,

Toronto drops down to the freezing mark with a -6 wind chill while the National Capital Region plunges to -4ºC as a daytime high, accompanied by a wind chill, as well.

In Quebec, Montreal will go from 10ºC on Tuesday to a comparatively chilly -5ºC on Wednesday.

Heading farther west, Fredericton, N.B., will enjoy a pleasant 9ºC on Tuesday before temperatures plummet to -3ºC on Wednesday, with a -9 wind chill.

The cold front will then reach Nova Scotia and Newfoundland on Wednesday, creating chilly temperatures in its wake on Thursday.

St. John's, N.L., will see a decent 3ºC reading on Wednesday before dropping to -2ºC with a chance of snow on Thursday.

The sudden drop of temperatures may be unexpected following a series of warmth in the region. However, the cold will be brief with warmer air forecast to build back in for the weekend.
