20°C is back! Spring heats up again across B.C. and the Prairies

Canada's weather pattern is shaking up and bringing the heat back to Western Canada!

Parts of Eastern Canada may be facing a spring cooldown, but Western Canada will be basking in the heat as a ridge of high pressure builds over B.C. on Sunday and spreads warmth over the province and Prairies.

Vancouver could finally see its first 20°C day of the year on Monday, and Winnipeg's on Wednesday. We may also see Canada's warmest temperature so far for 2026 in the coming days--a record currently held by Windsor, Ont., with 27.5°C.

Warmth begins to build in British Columbia and Alberta Sunday

As the ridge of high pressure builds in B.C., we'll see freezing levels rise to 2000-3000 metres over the weekend. By Sunday, daytime highs will be back to the 20s across the Fraser Valley and Interior.

Temperatures will also be warming up along the coast, with Vancouver possibly getting its first 20°C day of the year.

The warmth will linger into the workweek, with highs in the mid- to upper 20s forecast in Osoyoos and the Okanagan on Monday and Tuesday.

Folks can expect to see a good amount of snow melt over the coming days thanks to a healthy snowpack, as well as the late-season storm that dropped 10 to 35 cm of snow over parts of the province this past Wednesday and Thursday. Stay alert for localized flooding and rising river/creek levels.

Mild temperatures move into Saskatchewan and Manitoba Monday

Spring warmth will also make its way into the eastern Prairies on Monday, bringing 5-10°C temperatures to the north and 20-degree temperatures to the south. The warmest day of the week will be Wednesday, when Winnipeg could see its first 20°C day since Oct. 3, 2025.

The above-seasonal warmth will raise the risk of flooding as the snowpack melts. The Red River, which runs through Winnipeg, is famous for its spring floods, so folks should stay alert for any flood watches and warnings.
