These stunning photos are Canadian Geographic winners for 2022
Here are some of Canadian Geographic's best photos from its 2022 Photos of the Year competition.
The winners have been announced for this year’s Canadian Geographic 2022 Photos of the Year competition after receiving thousands of entries from every corner of the country.
There were four distinct categories: Wildlife in action; City life; Epic landscapes; and Weather, seasons, and sky - with the overall winner taking home a $5000 prize.
Editorial staff from the magazine poured over the photos looking for composition, originality, a compelling story, and, in the words of editor Alexandra Pope, an image that when it "pops on our screen, we say 'Wow! That’s incredible.'”
Making the final decision were judges wildlife photographer Mark Raycroft, Photographer-in-Residence Scott Forsyth, and yours truly - The Weather Network's Kim MacDonald. I was responsible for the weather, seasons, and sky category.
I spoke with overall winner Alan Poelman from Atikokan, Ont., about his close encounter with a lynx, and Weather, Seasons, and Sky category winner, Jeff Wizniak from Saskatoon, Sask., about his enviable shot of an EF2 tornado.
