Nunavut Day: Explore the majestic beauty of Auyuittuq National Park
July 9 is Nunavut Day, in celebration of the day the Nunavut Claims Agreement act went into effect, on this day in 1993.
Nunavut didn't become an official territory until April 1, 1999, but the initiation of the agreement is regarded as the milestone that led to Nunavut's territorial status.
In honour of the day, we're taking a look at Auyuittuq National Park, a Nunavut landscape that's teeming with majestic glaciers, granite mountains, and scenic views.
Located on southern Baffin Island, the park is home the Akshayuk Pass, a travel corridor used by the Inuit people for centuries.
From hiking to mountain climbing to skiing — there's plenty to do.
