Winners of 2020 Winnipeg Warming Hut competition now on display
These stunning structures are currently on display at The Forks.
Three teams have been selected as the winners of Winnipeg's 2020 Warming Huts Arts + Architecture Competiton on Ice. The teams, hailing from Japan, France, and Calgary, Alberta beat out 200 submissions from around the world.
The winning structures were unveiled to the public Friday at the Forks and will remain on display until the end of the skating season.
Here's a closer look at the structures.
FOREST VILLAGE - ASHIDA ARCHITECT & ASSOCIATES CO. (JAPAN)

The winning architectural team from Japan, comprised of Masato Ashida and Adrian Stecheweh, created a Forest Village for their 2020 entry.
While originally designed to be constructed out of straw, the team opted to use cattails, which are abundant in Manitoba.
THE DROOMBOK - ONOMIAU (FRANCE)

The Droombox was a concept entered by a small French architectural firm that features a mythical creature living along Winnipeg's river trail.
S[HOVEL] – Modern Office (CALGARY)

A Calgary team opted to create a small shelter made of 194 aluminum shovels. After the festival, the shovels will be donated to Take Pride Winnipeg’s Snow Angel Program, a non-profit charity that helps seniors and the infirm with snow removal.
The Warming Huts competition is currently in its tenth year and is supported by the Manitoba Association of Architects.
