The Canadian Dermatology Association recommends sun safety every day to help prevent the long-term consequences of too many harmful rays. It’s especially important to remember to apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher before you step outside. Here's our roundup of sunscreen application and aftercare to see you through the rest of the summer.

SUNSCREEN

Sunscreen is important to apply (and reapply) no matter what age you are! Shop the Weather’s recommendations for the best sunscreens this summer include ThinkSport for Kids with an SPF 50+, Blue Lizard Sensitive Mineral Sunscreen with an SPF 50, and Banana Boat Ultra Sport Spray with an SPF 30. ThinkSport and Blue Lizard are both mineral sunscreens, which feature zinc or titanium dioxide formulas making them reef safe and ideal for sensitive skin. The sport spray ranks high among customers on Amazon.ca as a sunscreen specifically formulated for active lifestyles since it’s convenient to reapply when you’re on the move.

LIPSCREEN

It’s easy to forget about protecting your lips from the sun resulting in crispy burns and chapped skin. Our favourite picks for lipscreen include NIVEA Sun Lip Care with SPF 30, ATTITUDE Lip Balm with SPF 15, and ChapStick Active with SPF 30. Each of these options are ideal for sensitive skin and contain nourishing ingredients to provide powerful protection and moisturization. Be sure to apply generously ahead of going outside in the sun.

AFTERCARE

After spending any amount of time in the sun, your skin will feel good if you follow up with a soothing aftersun lotion, and if you were unfortunate enough to suffer a mild sunburn, your skin will thank you for applying something that’s both cooling and repairing. Our top recommendations are Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Weightless After Sun Lotion, Sun Bum Cool Down Hydrating After Sun Lotion, and Burt’s Bees Aloe and Coconut Oil After Sun Soother. All options have healing properties such as aloe and vitamin E, but if you prefer to stick to skin products with the most natural ingredients try the Burt’s Bees After Sun Soother.
